Keith Bannister
At Kings & Work
I quote 'As you will have gathered by now I started in Special Hons Physics 1964 but being a bad student I was moved to General Hons Physics & Maths (supposedly I was better at Maths than Physics!)
and then managed to get myself thrown out for a year (Gen Hons had part 1 at end of year 1;
although I passed my 2nd year exams,
I managed to fail part 1 and had to do a resit the following year and hence did not graduate until 1968).
I am not sure how many people I remember from 1964 class (I remember Mike as he often sat next to me in Price's dreadful lectures on optics;
also, Andrew Ennis as we rowed together in the Kings 2nd eight). Next time you have a get together, let me know and I will come along if I can.
'
So to summarise, Keith started off in the 1964 Special Physics intake but moved (after a year) into the General Hons Physics and Maths.
He then had a year out and then eventually graduated in 1968 in Physics & Maths.
He then joined the Royal Navy as an instructor officer (short service) and eventually ended up qualifying as an actuary. He has worked mainly in London but with a 5 year spell in Australia and a 3.5 year spell in South Africa.
Kings Contacts
He and Andrew Ennis met up a few years back at a dinner at Kings (they were part of the 1964/5 Kings 2nd eight). He also contacted Mike Levitt briefly in 2013 to congratulate him on his Nobel Prize and send him a copy of the Feb 1965 Science Faculty photo (they were standing together in the middle of the back row).
Keith Today
Keith is now retired from actuarial consultancy, but does a bit of part time lecturing in Actuarial Science at City University London and the University of Essex. He also did a couple of years at UEA but gave that up. (He says that he only lecture during the autumn term to leave the rest of the year free but [at the time of writing] its getting close to start of term time - 3 weeks away! So I better start preparing my lectures.) He lives on the . Keith has been married 41 years and has 2 daughters (one went to Kings and the other to UCL).
Family
He now lives in South Suffolk (Suffolk/Essex border between Colchester and Sudbury) - river Stour (sounds nice). He moved there in the late 70s as his wife comes from Colchester. His wife was an infant/junior teacher but has now retired.
Keith's older daughter went to Kings and studied Classics and only lives about 10min drive away - she is working part-time at Deloittes in marketing; His younger daughter went to UCL (traitor!! History), still single and living in Greenwich - a lawyer working at BGC in Canary Wharf.
